🟦 ToekomstAtelier Leuven Internship (long-term)

In general

You join the ToekomstAtelier Leuven team. The combination of fieldwork on Thursdays in primary schools in Leuven and office work during the week in our Brussels office is complementary and allows you to deliver high-quality work while gaining a complete understanding of what a coordinating role in this field entails.

You actively participate in the bi-weekly workshop days in primary schools in Leuven and are closely involved in the daily functioning of the team.

What will you do?

  • Pedagogical and organisational support
You support the coordinators in organising and following up activities, including the mobilisation and guidance of volunteers, strengthening the Leuven network, and various organisational tasks.
  • Being part of a team
You participate in weekly briefings with the pedagogical coordinators and actively contribute to collective projects and team meetings.
  • Guidance during school workshop days
You work together with teachers to ensure the smooth running of the days. You interact with children and, if necessary and always with guidance, take on a temporary coordination role (“conductor”) during activities. At the end of the internship, you design and facilitate a workshop based on your field observations. This workshop is a concrete deliverable of your internship.
  • Supporting the school in volunteer activation (optional)
You liaise with the partner school according to their needs and help activate their volunteer network.
  • Cross-functional support (optional)

Depending on ongoing projects and organisational needs, you may join project teams or contribute to missions aimed at improving the quality of activities.

Your profile

  • You are currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant field (e.g. education, orthopedagogy, socio-cultural work, applied psychology, etc.).
  • You are able to work both independently and in a team.
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and can interact easily with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • You are motivated, precise, and proactive in problem-solving.
  • You have an interest in the Leuven educational environment.
  • You have a network in Leuven or are willing to develop one.
  • You enjoy working with 5th and 6th grade primary school pupils. You feel comfortable in a school environment and interacting with teachers.
  • You have excellent written and spoken communication skills in Dutch.
  • You have a strong interest in social issues and societal impact.
  • Ideally, you are available 2 to 3 days per week, mainly Tuesdays and Thursdays.

🟩 Civic Engagement Internship (short-term)

In general

At ToekomstAtelier Leuven, you can complete a short internship focused on civic learning and practical experience.

You participate in bi-weekly workshop days in three primary schools in Leuven and are in direct contact with children and teachers. A one-hour online preparatory meeting is required (date and time to be agreed upon), every Thursday.

What will you do?

  • Guidance: you supervise a group of 5th and 6th grade primary school children during workshops, activities, and outings, always in collaboration with teachers.
  • Participation in school life: you support coordination and logistics of the day.
  • Personal workshop: you propose or facilitate a workshop related to your profile, studies, or interests.

All activities are prepared by coordinators and supervised by teachers, with support from coordination.

Your profile

  • You have an interest in the Leuven educational environment.
  • You enjoy working with 5th and 6th grade primary school pupils. You feel comfortable in a school environment and interacting with teachers.
